Applied research using AI to support rigorous analysis at scale. This work demonstrates how large language models can be used as research infrastructure to extract, validate, and quantify insight from complex qualitative data while preserving methodological rigour. Using 480 lived-experience submissions to an Australian Senate Inquiry as a case study, the paper shows how AI-assisted extraction, clustering, and human-in-the-loop validation can convert narrative evidence into frequency-weighted, policy-relevant findings. The approach illustrates how computation can help researchers systematically reason over large text corpora, surface priorities that would otherwise remain anecdotal, and integrate lived experience into formal analysis without displacing human judgement.
